self-identity is such a beautiful concept. i mean, who are you? who are you on rainy saturday mornings or when you're reading your favorite book in your favorite coffee-shop or when you're driving around on a starry summer night with your best-friend?
i did a mini photo-series entitled, "I AM." in which i got fellow averett students to write down one thing to describe them. but this was the catch. they had to cover their face, representing the fact that they are more than just a physical entity. they are human beings with hopes and dreams and fears.
i ran across this poem by a madisen kuhn that reads:
who are you,
really?
you are not a name or
a height or a weight
or a gender.
you are not an age
and you are not
where you are
from.
you are your favorite
books and the songs
stuck in your head.
you are your thoughts
and what you
eat for breakfast on
saturday mornings.
you are a thousand things
but people choose to
see the million things
you are not,
you are not where
you are from but
where you are going
and i'd like to go there
to.
conclusively, stop and ask yourself.
do you remember who you were before the world told you who you should be?
